Overview of Course
Introduction and overview of Male Urethral Catheterisation and Suprapubic Re-Catheterisation procedure underpinned by best practice guidelines and evidence based research. Comprehensive overview of anatomy of male genito-urinary system. Review of Principles and Practice of Infection Control as it pertains to Male Catheterisation. Exploration of potential complications of male urethral and suprapubic catheterisation procedure with a particular focus on issues around prostate problems. An additional Practical Workshop can be arranged to provide the opportunity to practice the procedure under supervision on mannikins provided, in a supportive educational environment. Competency Assessment should be facilitated by employers at place of employment and local policy should guide this procedure at your healthcare facility.
Aims of Course
The aim of this program is to provide the skills and training necessary for safe and effective urethral catheterisation of the male patient as well as the suprapubic recatheterisation of clients. The theory of the program is facilitated online and a follow up workshop aims to provide the practical aspect of training.
