Overview of Course
Discussion and exploration of Nutrition and related topics in the care of Elderly Populations. Focuses on assessment, screening and care planning in this area. Overview of best practice guidelines in nutrition in older and more vulnerable people with a focus on Management of Dysphagia and other issues with swallowing that put vulnerable people at risk of aspiration and other complications.
Aims of Course
The aim of this course is to provide nurses and allied healthcare professionals with a comprehensive overview of the key principles of ensuring good nutrition for their vulnerable residents and to educate and empower them to safely iand effectively manage Dysphagia n long term care and acute settings.
Course Objectives
The expected outcome of this course is that the participants will gain a good understanding of the basics of good nutrition for older people and will be able to recognise problems through effective screening and learn to develop individualised care plans to meet their nutritional needs. They will explore issues around difficulty with swallowing and the conditions that contribute to it. This information will be the basis for the management of Dysphagia in their clients.
Target Audience
This course is open to nurses and healthcare practitioners from a variety of settings including long term residential care facilities, hospitals, intellectual disability services and community settings
